When Bertolt Brecht wrote The Threepenny Opera, he had every intention of making a political statement about his dissatisfaction with the bourgeois and the inherent contradictions within society as a whole. When it was first performed in Berlin in 1928, The Threepenny Opera shocked audiences of the day. Exposing the arbitrary morals of a capitalistic society and the thin line between criminals and honest folk has only become more relevant with time - and continuing relevance is the mark of a great play.
Eventide Arts is tackling this classic with the combined talents of director Ellis Baker, Music Director Maggie Bossi and Assistant Music Director Glenn Starner-Tate. They have gathered together a cast studded with Cape community theatre standouts from Falmouth to Orleans.
20% of the production's box office profits will be donated to Homeless Not Hopeless, a non-profit that helps homeless people get back on their feet, teaching them skills they need to function as contributing members of the fabric of Cape Cod.
