Japanese Tea Ceremony @ Cotuit Center for the Arts

Where: Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Falmouth Road (Rt 28), Cotuit

Two authentic Japanese tea ceremonies will be conducted by Yoko Kawashima Watkins at 1 and 2 PM to accompany the exhibit “Harmony and Balance,” which includes traditional and non-traditional works by Japanese-American artists and those influenced by Japanese culture.

Yoko Kawashima Watkins will demonstrate the traditional tea ceremony, or Cha-no-y. The author of several autobiographical children’s books on Japanese culture, including “So Far from the Bamboo Grove,” Ms. Watkins now lives in Brewster with her husband, Don Watkins.

Admission to the tea ceremonies is $10. The first 25 people to register for each ceremony will receive a free handmade sake cup made by Hollis Engley of Hatchville Pottery. To register, call 508-428-0669.
